A record 33,649 qualified athletes submitted applications during the registration window, which ran from September 14 to September 18, 2026. This representing a record-breaking volume of interest from qualified runners worldwide.
Out of the 33,649 total applicants, the B.A.A. accepted 25,630 runners:

What is the new Boston Qualifier Selection draw?
For the first time in the history of the race, the B.A.A. introduced a secondary random lottery. This new random selection process offered a pathway for 1,000 qualified applicants who met their official age-group and gender standards but missed the 5:17 cutoff.
All qualifiers who applied and missed the time-based cutoff were automatically entered into this selection. The B.A.A. began notifying both time-based accepted runners and the 1,000 random lottery winners on September 29, 2026.
