Berlin's second running stayed a modest forest race. Just 236 runners finished on 28 September 1975, 232 men and 4 women, a year after 244 finished Guenter Hallas's inaugural near the Grunewald. The defining story was a married couple sweeping both titles: Ralf Bochroeder took the men's race in 2:47:08 and his wife Kristin won the women's in 3:59:15, nearly 27 minutes clear of the next woman in warm conditions. She only realised she was leading as she entered the Mommsenstadion. No world bests, no lottery, no city streets yet: Berlin would not move into the centre until 1981, when 3,486 runners started in front of the Reichstag and the modern Major began to take shape.
