What made 2018 notable
Berlin 2018 is the day the marathon world record fell by a landslide. Eliud Kipchoge crossed the Brandenburg Gate in 2:01:39, the first man under 2:02 and 1 minute 18 seconds inside Dennis Kimetto's 2:03:23 from this same course in 2014. He ran the second half faster than the first and won by almost five minutes, with Amos Kipruto second in 2:06:23 and Wilson Kipsang third in 2:06:48. Gladys Cherono took the women's race in a course-record 2:18:11, her third Berlin title. Conditions were sunny and near-still, 14 C at the gun. Berlin is the world-record course, and 2018 is why. SCC EVENTS does not release ballot numbers.
