Chicago Event Management opened the ballot reporting an event-record 160,000 applicants, framed in the press release as the clearest signal yet that demand has outgrown supply. On October 12, Jacob Kiplimo went 2:02:23 in his marathon debut, the second-fastest time in Chicago history, and Hawi Feysa took the women's race in 2:14:56 with five women under 2:20 in a single race for the first time.
