The 2017 Virgin Money London Marathon belonged to Mary Keitany. The Kenyan ran 2:17:01 to break the women-only world record, taking 41 seconds off Paula Radcliffe's 2:17:42 set in 2005, after passing halfway in a blistering 1:06:54. In the men's race Daniel Wanjiru held off a late charge from Kenenisa Bekele to win by nine seconds, 2:05:48 to 2:05:57. The ballot behind race day had already made history, drawing a then world-record 253,930 applications, more than 6,000 up on 2016.
