The 25th edition was Sydney's first as the seventh Abbott World Marathon Major, and Harbour Bridge and Opera House dominated every race-day post in the running internet. Conditions were cold and clear, 8 degrees at the 6:30 start with a westerly wind chill that felt closer to 3, climbing to 18 by midday. Hailemaryam Kiros and Sifan Hassan both set course records in 2:06:06 and 2:18:22 on the new Major route.
