ONE TOKYO GLOBAL: A Second Route Into Tokyo

ONE TOKYO GLOBAL is the Tokyo Marathon Foundation's official club for runners living outside Japan, and it runs a member-only entry draw for the Tokyo Marathon 2027. That window opens at 11:00 a.m. JST on July 31, 2026 and closes at 5:00 p.m. JST on August 13, 2026, with results announced September 1, 2026. The general lottery does not open until August 14.

Does ONE TOKYO GLOBAL guarantee a Tokyo Marathon place?

Standard membership does not. The Foundation states that once member entries exceed the field size allocated to the category, places are chosen by random drawing, and it says explicitly that the entry is not first come, first served. What membership buys is a second draw in a smaller pool, not a bib. A separate paid SUPPORTING MEMBER tier is listed as including entry rights to the Tokyo Marathon on top of the standard benefits.

How many people are in the pool?

ONE TOKYO reported 8,095 GLOBAL members across 118 countries and regions as of March 2026. That is a materially smaller pool than the general lottery, which the Foundation caps at a roughly 10% acceptance rate against a global applicant base. The exact number of places reserved for the member category is not published, so the odds cannot be calculated precisely, only inferred to be better than general entry.

What else does membership include?

The club lists priority entry for the Tokyo Marathon, participation in a secondary lottery, and access to virtual events. The RUN as ONE GLOBAL Virtual Run Series is the notable one: members who complete all 10 challenges enter an additional draw for 50 Tokyo Marathon 2027 places. That is a third bite at the same race for anyone already logging the miles.

Can you enter the member draw and the general lottery?

The member draw resolves on September 1, more than two weeks before general lottery results on September 18. That sequencing is the practical argument for joining: a member who misses the earlier draw still has the August 14 to 28 general window in front of them. Is it worth joining?

For a runner who intends to apply for Tokyo several years running, an extra draw plus a virtual-series draw stacked on top of the general lottery meaningfully changes the compound math. For a one-time applicant it is harder to justify. The ballot simulator shows what additional attempts do to cumulative odds, and the Tokyo Marathon page tracks every window in the 2027 cycle.
