Tokyo Marathon 2027 Para Athlete Entry Opens December 7

Para athlete entry for the Tokyo Marathon 2027 opens at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 7, 2026 and closes at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2027, according to the Tokyo Marathon Foundation. The Foundation published the entry information on October 8, 2026 and says the entry procedures will go up on the official website on December 7.

The race is on Sunday, March 7, 2027. The wheelchair start is at 9:05 a.m. and the para athletes start at 9:10 a.m.

Who can enter?

The Foundation splits the field into three categories. All athletes must be 19 or older on race day.

  • Category 1, wheelchair T53/T54: hold WPA International Class T53 or T54 and have a qualifying time from a WPA-sanctioned competition between March 1, 2023 and the application deadline. The standard for the wheelchair elite division is within 1:50:00 for men and within 2:00:00 for women.
  • Category 2, visually impaired T11/T12: hold WPA International Class T11 or T12. No qualifying time is listed.
  • Category 3: all other WPA sport classes and athletes with a hearing impairment. No qualifying time is required. Athletes with a hearing impairment must hold an ICSD number and show registration with their national athletics federation.

Athletes must, in principle, complete their 2027 IPC registration by race day. For athletes in International Class T20, IPC registration or inclusion on the Virtus International Eligibility Master List is accepted. The Foundation also admits athletes recommended or invited by the organizer or a para athletics organization affiliated with the Japanese Para-Sports Association. No on-site classification takes place at the event.

How many places are there?

Capacity is 35 athletes in Category 1 and 50 across Categories 2 and 3 combined, for a total of 85 including invited athletes. These are maximums. If applications exceed capacity, the organizer decides based on recent official times and other competition results submitted with the application, and it says meeting the eligibility rules does not guarantee selection.

What does it cost and when are results?

The entry fee is JPY 19,800 for domestic participants and USD 230 for international participants, including the handling fee and tax. Selection is scheduled for late January 2027, with the exact date still to be confirmed. The Foundation will not answer individual inquiries about selection results.
