What made 2015 notable

The defining image of 2015 was Kipchoge's shoes, not the clock. Both insoles had worked their way out of his bright yellow racing flats and were flapping at his ankles from the 16th kilometre, yet he held form to win in 2:04:00, a personal best by five seconds and the world-leading mark of the year. He said the problem started in the opening kilometre but chose to race on rather than stop. Gladys Cherono completed a Kenyan double in 2:19:25, just 13 seconds off the course record. Eliud Kiptanui took second in a lifetime best 2:05:21 and Feyisa Lilesa third in 2:06:57. Dennis Kimetto's 2014 world record stayed safe.
