What made 2005 notable

The 2005 Flora London Marathon belonged to Paula Radcliffe, who won the women's race in 2:17:42 for a world best in a women-only event and her third London victory from three starts. The race is best remembered for the moment near the 23rd mile when she stopped at the roadside with stomach trouble, a scene broadcast live, before pressing on to finish over five minutes clear of Constantina Dita's 2:22:50. Kenya's Martin Lel announced himself as a major marathon force in the men's race, winning in 2:07:26 ahead of Jaouad Gharib and Hendrik Ramaala. In the wheelchair races, Saul Mendoza and Francesca Porcellato took the titles. 35,261 runners finished from 35,600 starters.
