Tokyo 2024 was the dual-course-record day, Benson Kipruto running 2:02:16 and Sutume Asefa Kebede 2:15:55 in conditions that started at 7 degrees and climbed only to 12, the cold-weather flat-course matchup the event was built for. The Tokyo Marathon Foundation finished 35,443 of 36,697 entrants, a 96.6 percent rate that travelling runners called best-in-class organisation. Posts ran heavy on Japanese hospitality and atmosphere along the Shinjuku-to-Tokyo Station route.
