Context

What made 2015 notable

Two stories defined the 38th Chicago Marathon. Dickson Chumba pulled clear over the closing miles to win the men's race in 2:09:25, holding off fellow Kenyans Sammy Kitwara and Sammy Ndungu. Florence Kiplagat completed a Kenyan double, taking the women's race in 2:23:33 by ten seconds from Yebrgual Melese. The most celebrated American result came from Deena Kastor, who finished seventh overall in 2:27:47 and broke the U.S. masters marathon record that had stood since 2005. More than 37,000 runners started in clear weather, 54F at the gun before it warmed through the high 70s. Entry came through a spring non-guaranteed drawing that opened on 10 March and closed on 21 April 2015.
