The 2007 Flora London Marathon, the 27th running, is remembered for the heat. Sunday 22 April was the warmest race day in the event's history at the time, and the conditions defined the day. Kenya's Martin Lel won the men's race in 2:07:41, his second London title, while China's Zhou Chunxiu took the women's crown in 2:20:38. David Weir and Shelly Woods won the wheelchair races. The warmth came at a cost: 73 runners were hospitalised and 22-year-old fitness instructor David Rogers died of hyponatraemia after collapsing past the finish. A total of 35,667 runners finished, 24,815 men and 10,852 women, then a record field for the race.
