Context

What made 2022 notable

The 2022 race was the first London Marathon under TCS title sponsorship, taking over from Virgin Money, and the third run in autumn after COVID pushed the event out of April. The ballot closed at 9pm on Friday 8 October 2021, and outcome emails went out on Monday 14 March 2022, two weeks later than planned because organisers had to accommodate rolled-over places from the cancelled 2020 mass event and the 2021 edition. More than 350,000 people entered. Race day, 2 October 2022, was dry. Amos Kipruto of Kenya won the men's title in 2:04:39 and Yalemzerf Yehualaw of Ethiopia took the women's race in 2:17:26, the youngest ever London women's champion. More than 40,000 finished the mass event.
