Lyudmila Petrova was second and Kara Goucher, in her marathon debut, third. The men's race went to Marilson Gomes dos Santos of Brazil in 2:08:43, a second New York win to follow his 2006 victory as the first South American to take the title. Abderrahim Goumri was second and Daniel Rono third. A total of 37,790 runners finished, one of the largest fields the race had ever hosted.
