New York held on to its crown as the world's largest marathon. NYRR and title sponsor TCS reported 49,617 finishers from all 50 US states and 125 countries, including a record 20,703 women, the highest female turnout the race had ever seen. The racing went to Kenya twice over. Stanley Biwott broke clear late to win the men's race in 2:10:34, just 14 seconds ahead of Geoffrey Kamworor, with Lelisa Desisa third. Mary Keitany defended her women's title in 2:24:25, beating Aselefech Mergia by 67 seconds and becoming the first woman to win back-to-back New York titles since Paula Radcliffe in 2008. Conditions were cloudy and mild, near 59 F at the Verrazzano start.
