The racing matched the scale. Ghirmay Ghebreslassie of Eritrea broke clear to win in 2:07:51, becoming at 20 the youngest champion in race history and the first Eritrean to take any Marathon Major. Mary Keitany made it three New York titles in a row, winning the women's race in 2:24:26 by more than three minutes over Sally Kipyego, with American debutante Molly Huddle third. Conditions were cool and breezy, around 57 F with scattered clouds at the Verrazzano start.
