Mary Keitany owned the 2018 women's race, pulling away to win her fourth New York City Marathon title in 2:22:48, the second fastest women's time ever run on the course and more than three minutes clear of Vivian Cheruiyot. NYRR opened the year with a record 105,184 lottery applications and pulled 15,640 runners through the entry drawing, an acceptance rate near 15 percent. The men raced far tighter: Lelisa Desisa held off compatriot Shura Kitata by two seconds in 2:05:59. Clear skies and a light NNW wind, starting near 8 degrees, made for fast conditions, and 52,704 runners finished across the five boroughs.
