London Marathon 2027: Mixed Elite Women's Race on the Table
The London Marathon could run its 2027 elite women's race with male runners and pacemakers, according to an interview London Marathon CEO Hugh Brasher gave to the Independent, published October 28, 2026. Nothing has been decided. The Independent reports that Brasher is talking to athletes about which format they want, with the elite fields expected to be announced in January.
What did Brasher say?
"We're prepared to mix it up. We very much talk to the athletes about what their goals are," Brasher told the Independent. He also said: "All things are on the table." He added that a women's only record in London remains important to him in the future.
Why does the format matter?
Records set in mixed races and in women-only races are tracked separately. The Independent notes London has run its elite women's race as a women-only race in recent years, and that Paula Radcliffe set her 2:15:25 world record in a mixed race in London in 2003. According to the Independent, Tigst Assefa holds the women-only record of 2:15:41, set at the London Marathon 2026.
Does it change anything for mass runners?
No. This is about how the elite women's race is paced. The London Marathon 2027 is held over two days, Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25, 2027. Entry routes and dates are on the London Marathon race page.
