How to Track a Runner at the Berlin Marathon
The official way to follow a runner at the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON is the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON App, free on iOS and Android. It tracks up to 25 runners or inline skaters at once, alongside live results, leaderboards, an interactive course map with cheering points, and push notifications through race weekend. Supporters can use it without creating an account.
How does runner tracking work?
Each runner's bib carries a timing chip that feeds the app and the event website with live splits as they pass checkpoints on the course. The runner chooses how visible that tracking is:
- Public: anyone can find them by searching the live results on the event website or in the app.
- Code: the runner shares a private tracking code with chosen supporters, who enter it to follow along.
- Private: the runner's name is hidden from tracking searches entirely and only appears in the final results list with their finishing rank.
If a runner you're following can't be found in the app, they likely chose Code or Private mode. Ask them for their tracking code, or wait for the final results.
Where else can I check results?
The BMW BERLIN-MARATHON website carries the same live tracking and leaderboard data as the app, so a browser works if you'd rather not install anything. Both pull from the same official timing feed, so times match either way.
What else should I know before race day?
